HTML Help

  • Create It~101: The first I used many years ago and still my favorite for learning the basics.
  • Hex Color Palette: Not every color possible because that would be impossible. A nice basic selection of hex codes all the same.
  • Page Tutor: Good site with a lot of information on webpage creation from beginner to advanced.

Zip Utilities

  • Power Archiver: This is the one I use now and is my favorite. Also has a cheaper price tag and better features in my opinion than WinZip. Was well worth the price.
  • WinZip: First program for zip files I ever used. It is very good but has a higher price than Power Archiver.
  • FreeZip: Just want something free to use? FreeZip could be the answer. I have not used this one though.

Image Hosting

  • Fotopic.net: Your own photo gallery and image hosting free. Image linking does have some restrictions though - 1000 hits per site for free accounts.
  • ImageShack: You don't have to sign up to use it however if you do you can keep track of all the images you upload with it.
  • TinyPic: No registration. Email feature will allow you to email a link to your image to yourself so you don't lose it.

Domain Names & Website Hosting

Now the best way to have image hosting that is reliable is your own hosting and your own domain. Trust me on this one. I have done it for years now. There is nothing like it for linking images.

  • Directnic.com: Has been my registrar for years now. Sure there are cheaper registrars but sometimes one sacrifices service to get a lower price. I can honestly say Directnic Domain Registrar has top notch service.
  • Beachcomber Hosting: From my personal experience one should always keep hosting and domains seperate. That is don't host with your registrar. I have used Beachcomber for a while now, the prices are good and service has been excellent. They might still have the 50% off your first invoice for new customers.

Graphic Programs/Editors

  • Paint Shop Pro: They used to be owned by Jasc and in my opinion were much better for graphics before Corel took over. I would recommended searching Ebay for older versions. Version 6 & Version 7 are really good without too steep a learning curve. Also can be used to edit PSD(photoshop) files with the right plug in.
  • XnView: Seems like a good graphics program for the price (free). With it you can import over 400 graphic formats including Paint Shop Pro PSP files and Adobe Photoshop PSD files. I have not used or tested XnView.
  • The Gimp & ImageMagick: These were recommend as good freeware graphics programs. However they do not seem as easy to use or install. Just my opinion. However you might like them.
  • Quick Screenshot Maker: I use this program to create the screenshots for the full previews. Was well worth the price. It is easy to use and comes with great support. I highly recommend this if you need or want to do professional full screen captures.

Web Page Editors

  • EditPlus: My absolute favorite editor and the one I use most often. In fact I am editing this page with it. It isn't free but it has some great features that make the price worth it for me. Recommended for experienced users to get the full benefit of it.
  • WinSyntax: This is almost as good as EditPlus but without some of the more fancy bells and whistles. It is free to download and use though so it is a great starting point.
  • Notepad: This is alright if you would rather just use what is already on your Windows computer. My opinion though is WinSyntax at least would be better than notepad.
